Bölge Sahil Güvenlik Komutanı Francesco Paolillo, Associated Press haber ajansına telefonla yaptığı açıklamada, can kurtaran botlarına ulaşamayan ve gemide mahsur kalan kişilerin helikopterlerle kurtarılmaya çalışıldığını bildirdi. Bölgede arama kurtarma çalışmaları devam ediyor.

Türkiye'nin Roma Büyükelçiliği'nden yapılan açıklamada, gemide bulunan dokuz Türk vatandaşına ulaşıldı.
Sağ salim Santo Stefano Limanı'na götürülen Türk vatandaşlarından kimlikleri tespit edilenler şöyle: Sırrı Tayfun Bora ve eşi, Mustafa Recep Tunççelik ve eşi, Almanya'da yaşayan Ajlan Barut ve Reyhan Dinç.

DHA Milano muhabiri Eda Berkbayrak'ın aktardığına göre, Santo Stefano Limanı'na feribotla nakledilen 600 kişi arasında yer alan İtalyan Pasquale Zumpo, "Tam bir kabustu. Titanik filminde gördüklerimiz yaşadıklarımızın yanında hafif kalır. Gemideki tahliye operasyonu tam anlamıyla felaketti. Kazadan bir saat sonra sandallara bindirmeye başladılar. Gemi yan yatıyordu. Ayakta duramıyorduk. Restorandaki masalar iki duvar arasında gidip geliyordu. Denize atlayanlar olduğunu gördük. Gemi yana yattıkça, bizim binmemiz gereken kurtarma botları da denize dökülüyordu. Bize Titanik dehşetini yaşattılar" dedi.
Yolcular arasında bulunan gazeteci Francesca Migliavacca ise yaşadıklarını, "Mürettebat dışarı çıkmamızı söylüyordu. İnsanlar kurtarma botlarının başına yığıldı. Bizim bulunduğumuz bot denize indiğinde defalarca geminin gövdesine çarptık. Boşlukta gibiydik. Dehşet vericiydi" diye anlattı.
Hırvat bir yolcu da "Gemi yan yattığında, kurtarma botlarından biri denize indirilmek istenirken geminin gövdesine çarptı ve bazı kamaraların da hasar görmesine neden oldu. Botta bulunanlardan bazılarının kötü yaralandığını gördük. Ölenler de olabilir" dedi.
